amazon echo speaker technology release

Amazon Annual Hardware Event

Amazon held its annual hardware event on Wednesday, September 25. It followed closely behind Apple’s annual keynote event from a couple of weeks ago, where the company unveiled the iPhone 11 Pro and other gadgets. Amazon introduced new Echo devices and Alexa capabilities in time for holiday gift shopping.

Echo Buds

One of the most notable announcements was that of the Echo Buds. These are cordless headphones, and are a direct competitor of Apple’s AirPods. These earbuds cost $129 and have Alexa technology built into them. They have five hours of battery life, as well as noise cancellation technology from Bose. For those non-Appleites out there, this seems like a great alternative for you. Echo Buds are available for preorder starting today.

Echo Glow

The company also unveiled an Echo device called Echo Glow. Aimed at targeting children, Echo Glow is nightlight designed to sit on the table next to kids’ beds. Kids can tap it and watch it change to different comforting colors. No more nightmares! This $30 device is also available for preorder as of today.

Smart Oven

People who don’t enjoy cooking will be pleased to hear about Amazon’s release of a smart oven. At $249, it comes with conventional oven capabilities as well as an air fryer. Of course, this device wouldn’t be complete without an accompanying Alexa app. The app can trigger the oven to turn on and start cooking. The best part about purchasing a smart oven? Amazon said they will give a free Echo Dot to everyone who buys it. Get ready to be an Alexa-based home.

Echo Flex

If you’ve considered purchasing multiple Alexa devices, the need to do that is over. Amazon introduced a new product called Echo Flex, essentially a tiny speaker that plugs into any outlet in the home. This brings Alexa anywhere she’s wanted, making lives easier. Echo Flex comes with a USB port for charging capabilities, a switch to mute Alexa and motion sensors, and it even doubles as a nightlight.

Alexa – Celebrity Voices

One of the more fun Amazon announcements comes in the form of celebrity voices. Alexa will be able to use AI to mimic famous voices. For only 99 cents, you can choose a celebrity voice like actor Samuel L. Jackson. Samuel L. Jackson can tell them the weather, set alarms and play music. Though we all want this feature right this second, it isn’t set to roll out until later this year, so we’ll have to wait for now.

These are some of the highlights from the conference, though they always have more up their sleeves. Amazon is a technology giant, and we can expect them to always strive for more and beat out its competitors.
