Animals of the Internet

Humans can’t seem to resist anything with four legs, furry bodies, and sweet faces. Hundreds of thousands of adorable videos of animals have graced the Internet over the years, and they never get old. A classic go-to for whenever we have too much time on our hands, want to procrastinate writing our papers, or just for fun, silly animal videos are there to get us through it all.

What are some of the most popular animals people search for on the Internet? Some answers might seem obvious, but there are plenty of cute sleeper animals that have risen in popularity over the years. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

This one should go without saying. Cats are the kings and queens of the right amount of attitude and sass mixed with unwavering love and cuddles. Not to mention they always seem to try stunts that have a 50/50 chance of working out perfectly, or failing miserably. YouTube has an endless number of episodes dedicated to all of the jumps, falls, and screeching meows.

Cats are such a popular animals to watch for humans because they remind us of us. They love to sleep, love to eat, and love attention–in small doses, of course. There are plenty of famous cats with huge personalities. They even have their own Instagram accounts. Some to be on the lookout for are as follows:

  • LIL BUB the Cat*
  • Venus the Two-Faced Cat
  • Nala Cat
  • Grumpy Cat*

*These two beautiful cat queens unfortunately passed away in May of 2019 (Grumpy Cat) and December of 2019 (Lil BUB). Even though they are gone, they both still live on in the hearts of millions of people all over the world.

Man’s best friend. What isn’t there to like about dogs? They’re funny, silly, loyal, and want to be near their owners at all times. Their willingness to go to the ends of the earth in order to make their owners happy is infectious, and that makes up a huge part of the many reasons why people spend their hours watching videos of them.

Dogs are like people in that there are so many different kinds. They come in different shapes, sizes, colors, and breeds. In a world that sometimes feels so divided, many people find solace in the pureness of dogs and their love for other dogs.

Some famous dogs that have graced the Internet are as follows:

  • Marnie the Shih Tzu
  • Maru the Shiba Inu
  • Tuna the Chiweenie
  • Boo the Dog*

*Boo has been given the title of “world’s cutest dog” year after year.

Pandas are the bamboo-eating, ground-rolling, constantly sleeping gentle giants of the animal kingdom. Whereas their other bear relatives are known to get violent or aggressive when called for, pandas prefer a simpler life. Their black and white fluffy bodies and big smiles make them irresistible, as they are basically real life teddy bears.

In addition to just looking precious, pandas tend to roll around and fall off of their respective sleeping and sitting areas, making them hilarious to watch. We all envy their laxidasical lives, and watching them goof around with their fellow panda friends is as close to them as many of us will get.

Many zoos have their own “panda cams” so people can monitor their funny antics 24/7. These zoos include:

A somewhat recent addition to cute, viral videos are otter videos. Otters are just dogs in water. Family-oriented and fun-loving, these water-swirling creatures are a great way to switch things up from typical dog and cat videos (though we are not discrediting how amazing dog and cat videos are). Fun fact about otters: they hold hands while they sleep in the water so they don’t float away from each other. How cute is that?

With the recent growing popularity of these aquatic angels, multiple Facebook groups and Instagram pages have been created to discuss the wonder of otters. While we all would love to have one as a pet, their natural habitat is in the water.

Just like pandas, many aquarium keep otter cams live 24/7 so people can enjoy watching their watery tricks. Some aquariums in particular are as follows:

Animals are a big part of our lives all over the world, and having videos readily available and dedicated to their innocence is good for everyone. Animals don’t sweat the small stuff like humans do, which makes them fun to watch. Check out some of these adorable creatures today!
