Facebook’s VR Is On A Brand New Horizon

Facebook started testing its new social platform: Horizon. According to Oculus, Facebook Horizon is a new social Virtual Reality world coming to Oculus Quest and the Rift Platform this year. This application is the “first step into an ever-expanding world of connection and exploration where anything becomes possible.”

Facebook Gets Help

Facebook even went a step further by recruiting several Sanzaru Games Developers to come and test out their new platform. Sanzaru Games, creators of Asgard’s Wrath, are a very popular Virtual Reality development company.

Facebook also partnered with Beat Games back in November. Beat Games is another Virtual Reality developer. Some argue that Virtual Reality is the future of gaming. Whether that ends up being true, Facebook is not wasting any time with breaking into this field.

This year, there are over 80 million Virtual Reality Headsets available. Over the last year, there is an increase of 20 million or so Virtual Reality Headsets, and that trend is expected to continue into 2021.

Facebook also released an official statement detailing how Horizon works. They said “before stepping into Horizon for the first time, people will design their own avatars from an array of style and body options to ensure everyone can fully express their individuality. From there, magic-like portals – called telepods – will transport people from public spaces to new worlds filled with adventure and exploration. At first, people will hop into games and experiences built by Facebook, like Wing Strikers, a multiplayer aerial experience.”

Horizon Advertising

At first glance of the promotional video for Horizon, you can see that you’ll be able to create your own cartoon-like avatar, just like the statement says. The video also showed avatars interacting in a variety of different ways. They flew planes, painted, chatted in a park, and even played laser tag in space. This new platform is completely creative and appears to have no limits.

Of course, there is money to be made. Virtual Reality advertisements are different because they can show off their entire products in a creative way. Due to avatars, people can try on these new clothes, shoes, etc, and see how it looks on them without ever having to leave home! That is amazing. Facebook will definitely take advantage of this. Horizon is just another tool to keep Facebook on top in the future.
