Instagram Adds Game-Changing Marketing Features

Instagram just added two new features that will change the way users interact on the platform. As of Feb. 6, users have two new category listings within their ‘Following’ tab which will enable them to see which accounts get the most visibility in their feed, and which accounts they rarely engage with.

What Does This Mean?

This means several different things. First, this is huge for social media marketing and advertising. They are already a huge tool for business owners. Instagram has over 1 billion monthly users, and 60 percent of these users are between the ages of 18 to 29. If you know anything about this age group, then you understand they are extremely into checking their follower count.


This young target audience constantly checks who engages on their pages, which is a big reason why Instagram already began testing hiding likes. This social media platform has really made it that much easier to narrow target audiences for business owners. The numbers also point out that 80 percent of Instagram users follow at least one business! One has to take advantage of these resources and capitalize.

You don’t even have to pay for this service! Anyone can view it. By seeing who interacts on your page the most, you can then decide which products to promote. The accounts with less interaction also give you the opportunity to either unfollow or check their page to figure out why they aren’t checking your profile. 

Instagram Takeover

This new feature was first tested last October, and really continues the trend of allowing users more follower control. The ability to market is literally on your fingertips now. The combination of Instagram Insights and these 2 new categories should allow owners to transform the way they market their company.

Instagram is attempting to make itself the number one platform for digital marketing. While Facebook still holds the crown, these recent additions might put them over the top.
