Snapchat has a big redesign coming to its platform. Several tests have been done to work out how the new designs will affect their users.
According to Hindustantimes, “in the new design, the Snap Map — which displays your friends’ physical locations on an animated map, and was previously accessed by pulling down from the camera screen — is now on the left of your chats. Discover has been renamed ‘Community’. “
“And Snap’s slate of original series, which includes serialized dramas and reality-style programs, can be found to the right of Community in a new tab that has inherited the ‘Discover’ name.”
Currently, Snapchat has three options when the app originally displays. The left option is for your personal messages, and group chats. The center option allows you to take pictures, videos, and access your saved memories.
Finally, the right side is your Discover section where you can view your friend’s stories, subscriptions, advertisements, and more. Instead of having to swipe to access a different option, you can just simply tap to reach a different screen.
This is setting up to be a huge win for them, as their last redesign update didn’t go so well. . In 2018, Snapchat had to respond to 1.2 million of its users who petitioned the redesign. They responded by saying that users would just have to deal with it. Snapchat administrators thought that users would accept it over time. However, in the end, 2% of Snapchat users left the app after previous updates.
However, this social media platform has recovered significantly since then. In 2019 they gained over 20 million more users.
Interestingly enough, Financial Express stated that “despite additional users, the company has not been profitable. While Snapchat is still favoured by many school and college students, adults still feel that application usage is not smooth.”
In other words, Snapchat has more numbers, but not more money. Instagram and Twitter are still preferred over them. Maybe their recent partnership with NBC combined with this new update might propel them to even higher levels. Only time will tell if they can regain their popularity.
